If you're a Mac user you've certainly heard about Snow Leopard. Those Apple kids know how to "talk up" any new software or hardware LONG before it hits the shelves.

Last Friday it hit the digital shelves at Apple's website. If you already have 10.5 you can upgrade for a mere $29, a surprisingly cheap price for anything Mac.

Is it worth it? Read this article at ZDNet and decide for yourself. Seems that the owners of newer systems benefit the most. You can wander around the Mac OS X site to see the new features.

Yes, Apple sales are up. They are one of the best marketing machines on the planet.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion about Mac being the best computer money can buy. It's certainly the best computer a LOT of money can buy.

Don't want to start a Mac/PC flame war here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. People should buy what they are comfortable with and what works best for them.

I just wish more Windows users would educate themselves about viruses and malware and protect their systems. There's lots of FREE and good software to protect one's PC. Even a simple step like NOT opening every email you get would help reduce problems. I haven't had a virus or malware or Trojan attack get to my system for well over 10 years.

Who knows. If Mac sales outpace PC's then the virus writers and hackers will divert their attention to OS x.   Smiley

Snow Leopard is the "cat's meow" for OS x but only for those users with Intel based Mac's. All you Mac users with PowerPC chips are left outside the window, in the cold, just able to watch the "cool kids" and their new OS. ( I wanted to upgrade all the systems here at the Telegram but can't since half the machines are PPC chips)

Remember I said Apple is a great marketing machine? Does this seem like a move to sell more hardware? Makes one wonder.

Windows systems have their set of issues; Mac systems have their set of issues. I use a Mac at work and PC at home and there are things I can do easily on one system and not the other. (This goes both ways; it's not a statement of one is better than the other)

Both work right out of the box, otherwise you'd return the darn thing! Both take some time to configure and install the apps you need. Both are tools and the choice between them can be likened to choosing a gel ink pen or a ball point. Both do the job well, yet there are some minor differences.

Choose and use what works for you.

Gene - Please tell me you're not serious about this thing. A $900 "simple" computer?

It's just a PC clone running (most likely) gOS, which is a freely available Linux port with a simplified interface and group of apps. I wouldn't pay more than $300 for something like this.

FirstStreet is just robbing people. And who's to say this will be more stable than anything else? Put some bad hardware with a good OS and there's bound to be problems.

Now, let's stop this "my computer is better than yours" stuff. If you want add something about the original topic feel free.
