Hi,

My name is Daniel Sato and I just moved to Garden City two Saturday's ago (the 14th). I am also the new web editor here at the Telegram. I just thought I would introduce myself and, as a newcomer, ask, "What should I do?" Where are the good places to eat? How do you spend your weekends? How big is this Big Pool?

Looking for some insight...

Welcome to Garden City Daniel! Annually The Telegram does a "voting type" survey of the various businesses in town. The winners are posted in The Telegram. If you can find that edition you will find the "Best Liked" businesses in town. It is a neat deal!
I am sure you have heard the Big Pool is large enough for the zoo's elephants to make a journey over, to have a season ending swim!
Personally, golfing at Buffalo Dunes is as good as it gets, although this is not the best time of year for golf!
Once again welcome to Garden City!

Yea... something tells me I should avoid the outdoors (at least until I start to adjust to the cold)! Thanks for the tip, I'll check our Best Liked section.  Any personal choices?

For Mexican food, I like Las Margaritas, El Zarape and El Conquistador.  My husband likes La Playa DoRado.

For Italian, Napolis at the airport has no peer (or any competition either at this point but is still very good).

For Chinese/Vietnamese - Phoa Hoa is excellent.

For a cheeseburger - go to Hannahs.

For steak, I guess LoneStar will have to do.  Samy's may have good steaks, but they are so expensive I have never ordered one there!  Somepeople think Jax's Sportsbar has good steak...but I don't like much there except the cold beer.

For Pizza -again Napolis on Mary Street is my favorite.

Welcome aboard, Daniel.  May your new position be a rewarding one.  We're glad to have you and we know you'll do a fine job.  Did you come to us from a warmer climate?

I agree with most of DogLady's choices.  Good food at all those establishments.  Samy's may be pricey, but the service can be (and usually is) better than most other restaurants.  Applebee's is another old stand-by with a good, attentive waitstaff (generally!).

There is so much to do in Garden it is crazy! Well at least since I started GC Scoop.com I found out all the neat events and find out more everyday. I know your the web editor for the paper and I am by no means a paper, but I do have my own contributing factor to the community..
As for restaurants and weekends
What food do you crave most? and do you tote kiddos around with you on the weekends?

Welcome to GC and this place is a great place to live! Enjoy

@Lou, I did come from a warmer climate (Los Angeles) but am adjusting to new concepts of what is warm and what is cold.

@gcscoop, No kids yet! I've heard that the zoo is worth checking out, do you agree?

Is the YMCA the only place for organized adult sports?

Uhh.. I have to say I'm a stay-at-home-Mom and I'm not a big fan of the zoo. Kids love it though..so I go and it seems to be the right thing to do. The zoo is great I definitely want to stress that point.. I am not particularly fond of any zoo I'm more of an indoor drink coffee type of gal.. Anyways if your into animals and zoos then that is the place for you!
The GC Rec also has organized sports for adults. The FCHM is nice (Finney County Historical Museum) depending if your into the exhibit.
Lots of concerts going on this month too!
If your a sports fan definitely the GCCC basketball games are up and running! As for weekends they can be chalk full..
I think you should probably check out Bennicasa's (probably spelled it wrong) Open House on Sat. I've never been, never even knew it existed until the ad in the paper came out.. I'm going I like going to places I've never been here before and I've lived here for almost 5 yrs!
Let's see Sam's is pretty much the cheapest place to eat for pizza. It isn't the best pizza in the world but it gets the job done!
Also a good lunch is Brew Baker's the cup of soup is so TINY but so delicious!

Welcome again I am originally from Seattle and my pals always tease me about this place.. What is there to do here? as if everyone in Garden rides horses and buggy's around everywhere.. You'll totally enjoy it here but will definitely miss the ocean.. I think about the sound of water all the time..

If we had an ocean here, you couldn't hear it for the wind!

I see Napoli's up there... I have to say I also recommend it. I don't what city gcscoop is referring to, but it seems as soon as you have a place that is fun, enjoyable, or even remotely unique it doesn't stay open for long. I've been here on and off for 30 years, and was born here. Even so, I couldn't begin to tell you what to do here  Cheesy
